The latest State of Unreal saw the launch of Unreal Engine 5.6, which integrates tools like MetaHuman Creator. It also saw CD Projekt RED revealing a new cinematic trailer and tech demo for The Witcher 4, its next open-world action RPG in the celebrated series.

In a recent press release, the developer said it aims to be “the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.” Though the tech demo was running on a base PlayStation 5 at 60 frames per second with ray tracing, it clarified that the various features and technologies “will be supported across all platforms the game will launch on.”

Despite running in-engine and not representing “The Witcher 4 itself,” the tech demo still confirmed several new details, like Ciri venturing to the Kovir region in pursuit of a Manticore. She stops in the port city of Valdrest to speak with a contact before continuing with her mount, Kelpie, and spotting the Winter capital, Lan Exeter, from a distance.

The Witcher 4 doesn’t have a release window, but we know it’s not coming anytime soon. CD Projekt RED did confirm several other details, including the map being “more or less” the same size as The Witcher 3, the return of Gwent, and a focus on player agency with “tough choices” promised.
