Do you remember the controversy surrounding the Witcher franchise last year? Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the book series that the games are based on, reportedly sold lifetime rights for The Witcher franchise to CD Projekt RED for a low, one time advance that the company paid in full. Recently, however, it came to light that Sapkowski felt that he was owed more money, and demanded more compensation, with the possibility of a lawsuit if CD Projekt refused to comply.

Regardless of what you feel about the validity of Sapkowski’s demands, it seems like CD Projekt RED are going to pay him anyway. Polish source Puls Biznesu reports that the two parties are close to an agreement regarding additional compensation for the author of the franchise. This amount, however, will not be the roughly $16 million USD that Sapkowski originally demanded; that said, CD Projekt RED allegedly is paying him more money to recognize his part in the creation of the universe that their games are based on, and to maintain friendly relations with him.

Hopefully, this will be the end of that, and Sapkowski will not turn around and demand more money later.
