Even if you haven't played the original The Wolf Among Us, you should still be able to easily follow the story told in its upcoming sequel.

The Wolf Among Us’ final episode launched nearly eight years ago at this point, and that’ll be nine by the time The Wolf Among Us 2 launches- which means there’s a good chance that a decent chunk of the sequel’s player base is going to jump in without having played the original and knowing what story it told. Of course, that’s a dilemma that sequels face all too often, especially when there’s a gap between their release and their predecessor’s. So is that going to be an issue in The Wolf Among Us 2?

Not according to its developers at Telltale Games. Speaking in an interview with Edge (via IGN), Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie said that The Wolf Among Us 2’s written in a way to ensure that those who’ve never played the original game can still “come in at this point and understand what’s going on.”

“We strive to design our narratives so they can stand on their own,” he said. “We think the opening of the first episode sets things up in such a way that the player understands how the characters got where they are now.”

The Wolf Among Us 2 is set six months after the events of the first game, and will take place in the winter “all over” New York. Unlike the original game, where each episode was developed separately, Telltale is developing all episodes of the sequel in one go, to ensure a steadier and more consistent release rollout between episodes.

The Wolf Among Us 2’s first episode will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2023. Meanwhile, Telltale is currently also working with Life is Strange: True Colors developer Deck Nine on The Expanse: A Telltale Series.
