No multiplayer
Everyday we see more single player focused games getting shoddy multiplayer modes tacked on. A few games have taken a stand to this worrying trend, and we can only hope that Thief 4 will be one of these titles that remains defiant. As the games are primarily first person titles, I get the horrible feeling that some high up will think it’s a great idea to add in a multiplayer mode. Thief has, and always should be a single player experience. Don’t water down perfection.
Keep it steady
Stealth games are getting faster by the day. Just compare Splinter Cell: Conviction to its predecessors. Take a look at the new Hitman and you’ll see the same thing. These games are removing the wait and see stealth they were founded on, in favour of a quicker and more predatory gameplay pace. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all but, for the Thief games, I just can’t see it working. Let’s hope Eidos Montreal stick with what we know and love.
New characters
Whilst Garrett has always been a joy to play, a new perspective would be nice. Thief: Deadly Shadows alluded to such a change as well, with the young girl trying to pick Garrett’s pocket in the same way that Garrett did with Keeper Artemus at the beginning of the first game. Skip to 2:58 in the video to see what I mean. Playing as Garrett’s female protégée would be an intriguing change of pace, and lord knows that the Thief world could do with some kind of female influence.
