3. Implementation of Cloud Services
After purchasing Gaikai last year, Sony has been fairly candid on just when we can expect cloud services for the PS3. This has led to rumours that we’ll likely see it with the PS4, but when you talk about the “future of Playstation”, isn’t the ability to sync content across multiple Sony devices and stream content significantly path breaking?
The announcement will be a real hard sell but if Sony has the ability to back it up with significant happenings, then it could become one of the major turning points for the Playstation brand.
2. Revamped PlayStation Network
A PSN that is geared more towards indie development and having a Steam Greenlight style voting process sounds awesome, but this is something you present at a developer conference or at E3 when all the members of the gaming industry – media included – would be present. It doesn’t seem like something that will interest corporates as much (and there will be plenty at the February 20th event) like Cloud services. Also, cross-game chat: One can hope, right? But again, this makes more sense to show off to consumers at E3 where the maximum eyeballs will be.
This is the wild card that everyone is assuming will happen. The Playstation Vita has been floundering very badly, both in terms of sales and upcoming games despite Sony stating that it’s been performing as per expectations. What better way to give the brand a shot in the arm than by announcing a new model, perhaps some price cuts for the older models? Speaking of which…
