#8. GETH
The geth have been central to Mass Effect one way or another for as long as the series has been around. They started out as one of the main antagonists in the first game, and have been involved in many crucial galaxy-spanning arcs since then, and the lore and backstory that Mass Effect has crafted for them is, in a word, fascinating. Created by the quarians as a race of robots with virtual intelligence for the purposes of warfare and labour, the geth eventually became sentient, and the two races have been at war ever since. The geth are easily one of the most unique races in the series, and the fact that we got to see things from their point of view from Legion’s perspective made them that much more interesting.
