3. Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 2 won a truck load of GOTY awards. And for good reason. Mass Effect 2 was an awesome game, the best game of 2010, and the little flaws it had, Mass Effect 3 looks to fix. And while there are several words one can use to describe Mass Effect 3 (like amazing, breathtaking, awesome, blah blah), we will use only one, and we think it will suffice: epic. Mass Effect 3 already looks epic- too epic. So epic, we can hardly wait for its March 2012 release date. It features everything fans of the Mass Effect universe- and others- would like to see in the conclusion to this epic trilogy. ME3, so far, looks like a dream come true for all gamers, with everything from RPG elements to giant set piece moments to awesome shootouts to a brilliant story being featured in the game. There’s so much to be said about Mass Effect 3 already, months before its release, but sadly, I cannot say it all. So I’ll conclude with saying, very simple: I look forward to it.
2. Starhawk
Starhawk, the spiritual sequel to 2007’s Warhawk is… well, we don’t really know. We don’t have much info on the game. We know that it is being developed by the talented Santa Monica, the developers behind the awesome God of War series, and that Starhawk is set in a distant future, is a third person shooter, and plays out a lot like Warhawk, with a few gameplay tweaks. We also know that a single player mode will also be included in the game, unlike Warhawk. But that is all we know. Frankly, that is enough to get us excited about the game. Santa Monica are awesome developers, and Warhawk was a great game, so there is no way in hell that, with a single player mode to boot, Starhawk will not be good.
1. The Last Guardian
The Last Guardian has been in development for more than two years, and by the time it releases, it will be hitting 3. But the elongated development time looks like it will make the game worth the long wait. Coming from the talented studio that brought us the wonderful ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian looks to be a beautiful game which will tell a deep, emotional story of how the yet unnamed boy and the giant griffin named Trico slowly developed a deep relationship. The fresh, imaginative gameplay mechanics that are a hallmark of Team Ico games for so long now seem to be making a return in The Last Guardian, and we simply cannot wait to get our hands on it.
