Lords of the Fallen
Just missing out on the top spot is Lords of the Fallen, a Soulslike with immense attention to detail throughout its gloomy dual worlds. Lumen’s fully dynamic lighting does an incredible job of bouncing light realistically off a whole host of surfaces; cobblestone and medieval brickwork, rust-strewn swords and shields, and battle-scared helmets shimmer realistically as if photo scans of the real thing. The Umbral – that is, Lords of the Fallen’s realm of the dead – is dense in macabre shadow detail, with Nanite in full force reproducing texture at ultra-high resolution. As tactile and immersive a game world as any created.
