A shoo-in for the best-looking fighting game of all time, Tekken 8 started life on Unreal Engine 4 before switching mid-way through development to Unreal Engine 5 and that decision to upgrade has turned out a masterstroke. Character models, for instance, are extremely detailed to the point where beads of sweat are clearly visible as they trickle down veiny, bulging muscles. Knuckles are noticeably calloused; faces wear batter scars with pride. Tekken 8’s characters are the game’s selling point, and their extreme detail here helps the dynamism of their personalities shine.
