GlaDOS wasn’t going to be in Portal 2 either
Don’t get me wrong GlaDOS is a cold calculating and quite a brutal machine, but when it comes to the crux of it, we all love her, because she is simply awesome in her personality and dark humor. The writers thought that she had a nice little story arc, but also decided that it was time for a new villain. However the writers eventually decided to bring her back as part of the main cast, though originally she was just supposed to have a small cameo appearance.
