GlaDOS tries to trick you
It is very hard to try and take GlaDOS for her word, because she really hates you and tries to kill you at every possible given opportunity. However when the player frantically tried to escape the chamber, GlaDOS offers a way out and opens a side door which shows a brief illusion at the outside world with the help of fake plants etc. If the player takes the way out, they are trapped in a room with a lethal dose of neurotoxin which kills Chell, and of course it’s game over.
