Many people were rather surprised at this revelation, because it proved that Chell lived in the facility since she was a little girl, and it also proves that she is the daughter of one of the Aperture employees. If you take a look at the mutant potato that’s grown to the ceiling, that project was made by Chell. Though Wheatley makes an interesting comment about the project, this was an epic secret, and it really made us more aware of Chell’s origins.
