Hellraid:
Well, if it hasn’t been said yet, we at Gamingbolt will say it. Techland sure loves their zombie games, maybe even a little too much sometimes. Hellraid is a new, first person dungeon crawling zombie slaughter game. Unlike their other titles though, this game looks like it’s pulling very heavily from classical fantasy genres. The player will be able to use swords, war hammers and the standard, medieval weapons of combat. They will also be able to wield various elemental spells. While all of Techland’s games seem to be fairly gritty, and full of filthy looking undead, this game in particular seems to stand out as being gruesome and disgusting.
Unlike Dead Rising and their new game, Dying Light, Hellraid doesn’t look like it’s putting too much stock into the “survival” aspect of the game. While you will obviously need to fight to survive, scavenging for resources doesn’t look like it’s a game mechanic for this new game. Even though Hellraid seems to follow Techland’s standard fan fair, zombie titles on the surface, the gameplay does appear to be much different from what we’re used to seeing from them. The game also looks and feels like a classic dungeon crawler, and has a Diablo feel to it, that is if Diablo were a first person perspective. Fans of the Techland style of zombie game will probably enjoy this title immensely.
Closing words:
If you’re into saving the world by stopping the spread of some infection, causing friends, family and loved ones to become mindless flesh eating machines then you’re probably going to have a pretty good time with these games come 2014, and in some cases the end of 2013. Some of these games are even available for early release and for beta testing purposes right now. While they may not be perfect, they’re sure to get better and as it stands, each one of the titles mentioned has something special to offer, whether you’re interested in crafting a zombie-proof fortress, or cruising around the city like a cartoon character, unleashing Looney Toons style violence on every undead being unfortunate enough to cross your path.
