Ubisoft Says it Has Delayed a “Large” Game to FY 2024/25

It's likely that the company is referring to Star Wars Outlaws, which previous reports had alleged was targeting a Q1 2024 launch.

In its recent fiscal report for the first half of fiscal year 2023/24 (which runs until March 31, 2024), Ubisoft has announced the delay of an unspecified “large game” from the ongoing fiscal year into the next one. The company says this will allow it to “maximize its value creation”.

“The overperformance in Q2 and the current positive momentum of Ubisoft’s brands build confidence for the rest of the year,” the report reads. “The Company can therefore confirm its announced guidance of strong top line growth and non-IFRS operating income of approximately €400 million, without releasing the other large game it had initially planned to launch during the last quarter of the current fiscal year.

“The Company has decided to launch this other large game in FY2024-25, so as to maximize its value creation.”

Though Ubisoft hasn’t explicitly mentioned the game that it’s referring to, it’s likely that it’s Massive Entertainment’s upcoming open world title Star Wars Outlaws. Officially due out sometime in 2024, prior to the game’s official announcement, reports had claimed that it was targeting a release sometime in Q1 of the year (i.e. Q4 of the current fiscal year).

Currently, Ubisoft has a few more major releases lined up for the rest of the fiscal year, including Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR in November, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in December, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January.
