More varied co-op mini objectives

 

            The objective cycles in the co-op modes are a solid addition. They add variety to the proceedings, and prevent knowledgeable players from being able to hide in that one safe spot they know on each map. My problem is that they aren’t varied enough. Sieze, survive and capture the treasure are the only three I’ve seen so far. Hopefully Naughty Dog have held some objectives back for the full retail game, because if they haven’t the co-op modes may well wind up getting stale quickly.

 

Sprint toggle options

 

            So many games have begun including sprint functions and, though Uncharted is now a part of this trend, it differs from the mould by making the sprint mechanics toggled rather than held. It felt strange not needing to hold in the left stick for the duration of my sprint, and I’m not sure if this was a good or bad thing. I’m not saying Naughty Dog need to change this, but the option to choose between toggled and held sprint would be nice.

 

Split-screen dead zone

 

            Split-screen gaming is awesome, especially if you can bring your buddy online with you, so credit to Naughty Dog for including such an awesome feature. My problem with it though is how much screen is wasted when you bring a second player in. Each player’s portion of the screen is accompanied by a huge black bar on one side that wastes a lot of screen space. It obscures your view somewhat and seems needless. I’m guessing there’s some technical reason for this nuisance but, if a work around exists, it should be implement. Even the biggest TVs don’t do Uncharted justice with the current split-screen set up.

 

Poor AI

 

The Uncharted experience has always been notable for catering equally for those interested in both competitive and co-operative multiplayer. The problem with Uncharted 3 at the moment though is that the co-op is rather lacking. The AI opponents at the moment have a lot of black spots where they just won’t work efficiently and fail to fire at you at all, making things a little too simple on occasion. Competitive multiplayer is obviously exempt from this, but the co-op modes will be somewhat weakened if Naughty Dog don’t sort out the AI issues.
