Uncharted 3 Character Models Were Heavily Downgraded in the MP

Posted By | On 17th, Nov. 2011

It looks like Naughty Dog has downgraded the engine in Uncharted 3 because of 3D? Or whatever it is. We have definite proof that the character models were downgraded from Uncharted 2. One user in the Naughty Dog forums has posted a bunch of screenshots that show the downgrade in all its glory.

Even in the campaign you can see a lot of jaggies because they removed the 2x MSAA and went for a custom post-processing Anti Aliasing solution. It is really disappointing but you can check it out below.

This is what the user had to say.

I cannot believe how bad Uncharted 3 multiplayer looks compared to Uncharted 2. Chloe doesn’t even look like herself. Take a look at her hair, her eyes, her jagged chin, and the extremely low res shirt and harness. Also, look at Elena’s horrible hair quality and jagged shadows. What is the most surprising is Zoran’s glove texture

It looks like it was designed for the Nintendo 64. Ive seen higher detailed textures in Goldeneye 64. The disparity between the character model detail and the weapons is just night and day. The following pictures compare Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 multiplayer side by side.

Uncharted 2 screenshots are on the left and Uncharted 3 screenshots are on the right. I am most upset by the way they destroyed Chloe. I also cant believe that they changed the dynamic nature of the characters’ eyes. If anyone from Naughty Dog reads this, I would really like an explanation as to why the characters look like they were designed to run on a Playstation 2. Why couldn’t they just pull the same models from Uncharted 2?

So there you go. Check them out below.
