When a henchman would throw said grenade at Nathan, that distinctive tap, tap, tap of the explosive landing on the ground nearby, then, BOOM! A marvelous and practical explosive effect was more than just a bomb going boom. Each object, Nathan, henchmen, scenery would deal with the explosion in a very pragmatic form. The ground singed and objects burnt, grenades perform how one would think it would act in real life. Something often lost in translation in other games that show a grenade go off, show some smoke and often ignore any detail to damages around it.
