Ballistic Moon’s Until Dawn finally has a release date, bringing its remaster of Supermassive’s acclaimed horror to PS5 and PC this October. A new comparison trailer highlights many graphical improvements, but there are other things to look forward to, as detailed by creative director Neil McEwan on the PlayStation Blog.

While it’s confirmed to be developed on Unreal Engine 5, McEwan confirmed features like ray tracing and “enhanced materials” for a more “atmospheric and ‘modern horror’ experience.” Character models are also of higher fidelity with improved materials, rendering, and animations, while real-time fluids (including blood) are more realistic thanks to contemporary pre-rendering simulation.

The trailer highlighted changes to visible injuries that characters can suffer. On top of bruises and cuts, it also allows for snow, water, and tears on bodies. Interestingly, Ballistic Moon has “updated” the death scenes for characters, which should be interesting to see.

If all of this wasn’t enough, the cinematography has been revamped, with a new third-person camera offering fresh points of view. As per the developer, it allows for “new emphasis on important moments” and telling “the story from a view closer to the characters.”

Until Dawn launches on October 8th. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
