By the time Portal 2 begins, the status quo has been established very firmly- Glados is the evil AI, and she needs to be put to a stop, and the endearing and eccentric Wheatley is only trying to help us. We also end up helping Wheatley, of course, but that turns out to be a mistake. Wheatley becomes consumed by the power he holds, and in an interesting twist, becomes the main antagonistic force that we, with Glados, now have to take down.
