Warhammer 40K Darktide

Fatshark has yet to reveal much gameplay of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide but its co-op first-person shooter is evolving in a number of other ways. Key among them is the new character creator, which allows players to customize their own character from the ground up. In a new blog post, narrative director Mårten Stormdal reveals that various voice profiles to choose from.

“In Darktide, players get to customize their own characters. They can step right into the Warhammer 40,000 universe and join the fight against Chaos. Even so, we know our players love the interactions between the Ubersreik Five (we love them too!) so we’ve poured time and effort into creating a range of voice profiles for each character class so you can pick the personality that fits you best.

“We have hard bitten professional soldiers, devout crusaders, snarky outsiders and more. There’s something for everyone.” Voice actors include Greg Jones, Sophie Wilkinson, Tom Dussek, Clare Corbett, Aaron Neil, Zigi Ellison, Zehra Jane, James Alexander and many more.

Creative consultant Matthew Ward said that players can expect “thousands upon thousands” of banter lines in the game. The developer previously revealed to EDGE Magazine that it had over 75,000 lines for interactions so this lines up.

There have been challenges though, specifically in keeping character voices “as distinct as possible.” “We get to cheat a lot because our wonderful actors do a lot of the heavy lifting, but I always want to give them plenty to work with. We’ve a couple tricks we deploy along the way, honed on years of Vermintide, and the end result speaks for itself.”

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is out on September 13th for Xbox Series X/S and PC along with launching day one on Game Pass. Check out the latest cinematic trailer here.
