Fig backers for inXile’s Wasteland 3 with First Access or above, take note – an alpha for the tactical RPG is coming soon. It’ll be available on August 21st for Steam according to the developer. The purpose for the alpha is to garner feedback on the combat and how players deal with the gameplay systems and levels.

You won’t make a fresh character – instead, the alpha will take place in media res as you’re on the hunt for the Psychopath, a child of the Patriarch. Perks and Skill menus will be inaccessible along with multiplayer but you can check out how the higher level combat works. Of course, it’s also worth noting that this is an alpha in every sense of the word.

As the developer states, “Every single piece of the game you’ll see and play will very much be a work in progress. While we’re going to do our best to provide a stable build, you should expect some amount of crashes, performance drops, compatibility issues, etc. to be possible. That’s part of what we’re testing and getting your feedback on. Speaking of which, stay tuned for official feedback and reporting methods.”

Non-backers will be able to try out another demo coming later to Steam Early Access, though there’s currently no date for the same. Still, it’s good to see progress being made en route to release. Wasteland 3 will be out in Spring 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will also be available at launch on Xbox Game Pass.
