Where Winds Meet - Hidden Mountain

Developer Everstone Studio has released a new trailer for Where Winds Meet, offering a better look at some of the concepts that will shape the title’s upcoming Hidden Mountain expansion. While a release date for the expansion hasn’t yet been announced, the studio has referred to it as a “massive” one, marking the beginning of version 2.0 of the free-to-play RPG.

The Hidden Mountain expansion will take players to Mohist Hill – a region known for its skilled craftsmen. However, getting there will be quite a challenge, since it “hides deep within mountain gorges, behind a roaring waterfall”. The new region is going to feature many secrets for players to discover, with ancient machines of war like siege engines and crossbows waiting to be investigated.

The dramatic narration of the trailer is accompanied by concept artwork for the Hidden Mountain region, which will feature dilapidated ruins that have been reclaimed by the neighboring vegetation, and even a pristine city filled to the brim with impressive feats of engineering, such as a water wheel as big as an entire building.

The narrator describes Mohist City as being “the heart of Mohist ingenuity” that has somehow survived long after the passing of its golden age when “gears roared, waters sang, and scholars’ debates filled the air.”

Much of the concept art shown off in the trailer highlights the fact that the Hidden Mountain expansion will have an emphasis on vertical exploration. The studio’s head of publishing, Eric Zheng, had spoken about this last month.

“Unlike previous regions, this is our first attempt to explore and showcase the beauty of cliffs and summits,” he explained. “To bring this vision to life, we’ve significantly enhanced the region’s atmosphere and environmental detail through three core elements: wind, light, and stone.”

“Dappled sunlight dances across rugged mountainsides, the wind echoes through the forests, and ancient stone paths bear the marks of time. Together, these elements help create a world that feels tangible, immersive, and alive.”

He even brought up some comparisons to the Hexi expansion, noting that while it served as a “tribute to timeless poetry and painting,” the upcoming Hidden Mountain expansion will “honor the ancient sages’ pursuit of reason and the ultimate ‘truth’”.

“This expansion explores a deeper theme: humanity’s pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. Throughout history, countless people have devoted their lives to seeking answers. Whether their conclusions proved right or wrong, their pursuit of knowledge has continued to push humanity forward, inspiring generations across time and expanding the boundaries of what we believe is possible.”

Where Winds Meet is currently in the midst of its Imperial Palace expansion, which brought in quite a bit of new content last month, including brand-new story quests, a bunch of side quests, and even some new bosses that can challenge even the best-geared players out there.

Where Winds Meet is available on PC, PS5, iOS, and Android. For more details, take a look at our review of the base game, where we gave it a score of 9 out of 10.
