Carbine Studios’ WildStar has a rather odd year. It had an excellent beta and launch period with significant content updates over the subsequent months. However, many bugs still remain and activity on servers has been dwindling heavily. In the midst of this, Carbine Studios president Jeremy Gaffney has revealed that he is stepping down from his current role.

This is due to Gaffney suffering from skin cancer which has claimed the lives of several of his family members. Gaffney is currently undergoing treatment after putting it off for nine months – which happened due to the launch for WildStar. It’s hard not to be impressed with his resolution throughout though it might not have been the wisest in hindsight.

Gaffney is also interested in the team improving upon the game without him forcing his own vision. He will remain in an advisory role with the company for now. In the meantime, we wish Gaffney all the best for a speedy recovery.
