Wolfenstein: The New Order Pre-Order Promises DOOM Beta Access, Releasing in May

Has Doom 4 finally escaped development hell?

Posted By | On 19th, Feb. 2014

Machinegames has finally announced a release date for Wolfenstein: The New Order. More importantly, it’s confirmed that Doom 4 is still very much alive.

If you pre-order the new Wolfenstein, you’ll receive access to the DOOM beta. While it hasn’t been explicitly called “Doom 4”, studio director Tim Willits did say that the next Doom game may not even bear that title. Regardless, the beta can’t possibly be for anything else but multiplayer. Is it for all current platforms? Too many questions and not enough answers but hopefully id Software can shine some light on the same soon.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be releasing on May 20th in North America and May 23rd in Europe for Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will take place in an alternate history timeline wherein the Third Reich won World War II and now control the world. You’ll return as B.J. Blazkowicz and wage a one-man war to topple the regime. Stay tuned for more details and clarification on what DOOM is or has the potential of being in the coming weeks.
