Wonder Woman is an open world action-adventure game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
It was announced at The Game Awards 2021.
Monolith Productions had been allegedly working on a new IP featuring the Nemesis System, which was cancelled for Wonder Woman.
Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego have been shut down, and Wonder Woman is officially cancelled.
Monolith Productions was shut down by parent company Warner Bros. earlier this week, and the Wonder Woman project has been cancelled.
"This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent within," said Warner Bros. Games.
Despite reportedly costing more than $100 million to develop, sources speaking to Bloomberg revealed that it's "struggled to coalesce."
Players will also allegedly meet "iconic DC characters" and "mythical inhabitants of Greek mythology" in the upcoming open-world title.
Diana will reportedly return to Themyscira to battle the sorceress Circe and make amends with Queen Hippolyta and her people.
Further details on its "troubles" weren't provided, but it's unlikely that Monolith Productions' title could appear at Summer Game Fest.
A spokesperson for the publisher clarified that it's a "single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world.'
The listing is for a Lead Software Engineer in Gameplay, with mention of "experience helping maintain a live software product or game".
What seems to be concept art for the open world superhero title has been spotted on the LinkedIn profile of a Monolith developer.
Mila Pavlin, who worked on Ragnarok's award-winning accessibility features, praised the Wonder Woman team for its "dedication to accessibility."
James Gunn, who was recently appointed as co-CEO of DC Studios, confirms that future games based on DC properties will connect to the DCU films.
