With Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard, a Game Pass release for World of Warcraft seemed inevitable. It won’t happen anytime soon, though, despite an email seemingly indicating otherwise.
Microsoft stated on X that the email “was a mistake on our end. Sorry for the confusion! Blizzard’s World of Warcraft was accidentally included in a Game Pass email even though it’s not available with the service – a correction email will be sent to those who got the original email soon.”
The advertising email was sent out to Game Pass subscribers and included World of Warcraft as one of the Activision Blizzard titles on the subscription service. It also featured a graphic of World of Warcraft‘s Plunderstorm mode, indicating that it would be available on PC and console.
“Play Call of Duty, Diablo 4, World of Warcraft, and more of Activision’s biggest hits with Game Pass,” read the promotional email. It is worth noting that, alongside requiring a monthly subscription to play, World of Warcraft is also exclusively available on PC through Blizzard’s own Battle.net launcher.
While it is currently amid its The War Within expansion, World of Warcraft recently kicked off its second season, which brought with it a host of content, including new dungeons, a new raid, as well as an entirely new zone with its own storyline and related content.
On the Classic side of things, World of Warcraft is gearing up to launch Mists of Pandaria Classic in Summer 2025. The expansion will allow players to re-experience (or freshly experience if they weren’t around for the original launch) what Mists of Pandaria was like back when it first came out in 2012. It’s currently in the middle of Cataclysm Classic, with the final bits of content to arrive in the coming months.
On the other side of the Classic coin, World of Warcraft also kicked off the seventh phase of its Season of Discovery, which brought with it new dungeons, as well as the start of the Scourge Invasion. The Naxxramas raid will also be available in the season, slated to open on February 6.
