Even if its Surface tablets aren’t necessarily setting the market on fire, Microsoft can at least rest assured that its consoles are doing well. Case in point, the Xbox 360 which has topped the US console market again by selling 302,000 units in February.

It’s sort of crazy in retrospect when you consider that this isn’t just the second or third time the Xbox 360 has beaten the competition – it’s the 26th. So even when the Wii U launched, it’s been going strong. Surely that’s an achievement. It remains to be seen how it will work in the coming few months since Sony has announced the PlayStation 4 for a holiday release.

Microsoft itself will undoubtedly announce its next Xbox (dubbed the Xbox 720) in the coming months as well. As more developers hop aboard the next generation ship, it won’t be long before we sales drop. Then again, the PlayStation 2 was doing great guns long after the PS3 released. Time will tell how things pan out but there’s no denying that Microsoft has won this generation’s console war in the US.
