In its Q4 fiscal year 2022 financial results ending June 30th 2022, Microsoft revealed that Xbox revenue has declined by six percent year-over-year. Xbox hardware revenue was also down by 11 percent with an increase in Xbox Game Pass subscribers serving to partially offset this. It has not confirmed the current number of Game Pass subscribers – over 25 million were last reported in January.

In an earnings call, the publisher said it expects revenue in gaming to decline in “the low-to-mid single digits” for the next quarter due to “declines in first party content.” The lack of first-party titles shipped up till June 30th is likely one reason for the current decline. With heavy-hitters like Starfield and Redfall being delayed to the first half of 2023, it’s no wonder the company is forecasting further declines.

Overall revenue for Microsoft for the quarter was $51.9 billion, which is a 12 percent increase year-over-year. Operating income was $20.5 billion, up by eight percent, and net income saw a two percent increase to $16.7 billion.
