The NPD Group recently released its sales report for October, which indicated that Halo 5: Guardians was the top selling game of the month (despite releasing near the tail-end). However, according to Microsoft, it was the Xbox One which managed to sell the most consoles in October.

Xbox marketing corporate VP Mike Nichols told GameSpot that, “The strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history drove record Xbox Live usage for October and made Xbox One the best-selling console in the U.S. with 81 percent growth compared to October 2014.”

Sony didn’t claim top honours for console sales but it did state that, “We are truly humbled by the success of the PlayStation 4 and look forward to celebrating with our fans at PlayStation Experience in December. Thank you to our community for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console globally.”

As for Nintendo, the sales for Wii U software were up by 40 percent year on year while Amiibo sales in the US are nine million. October was especially successful with 800,00 Amiibo figures and cards sold. No specific numbers were given on Wii U console sales.

Console sales overall for the month were at $271.1 million, slightly lower than last year’s $270.3 million.
