Microsoft has recently announced that its Xbox Reveal event, wherein it showcased the next generation Xbox One to the world, reportedly had 8.45 million people watching over a 24 hour period. This is according to streaming partner Akamai, with 1.73 million people watching on Spike TV.

Xbox Wire editor Lisa Gurry stated that, “With the unveiling of Xbox One, the all-in-one entertainment system for a new generation, we knew immediately Xbox fans were tuning into the announcement in record numbers. We are humbled and grateful for your loyalty and interest in the unveiling of Xbox One.”

Interestingly, next to the 2012 Presidential Election Night, the 2011 Royal Wedding and the 2010 World Cup, this was the most watched live broadcast in Akamai’s history, with Microsoft seeing triple its past concurrency record for such events.

Which is hilarious in retrospect because the Xbox One has been based from nearly every section of the gaming media for any number of features.
