Responding to a fan question on Twitter as to whether the Xbox One would be the last home console as “we know it”, Corporate VP of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer stated that this most certainly wouldn’t be the case.

“I don’t. I think local compute will be important for a long time”, stated Spencer. This is keeping in mind all the focus that’s been on Cloud computing, especially how it can potentially be used to bolster the power of the console.

There has been much talk regardless that this will be the last console generation given the amount of power that both the PS4 and Xbox One possess. Since it took a good 7 years for developers to fully exploit the power of the PlayStation 3, the assumption is that one can get far more mileage out of the PS4 (and Xbox One as well, for that matter).
