Microsoft have turned Xbox into a much more open platform these last few years, while they have also started integrating it with PC to a much greater extent. Meanwhile, on PC, their insistence on keeping their content locked to the atrocious Windows Store has also faded away, and Microsoft games have been enjoying great success on Steam. Even in spite of all of that, however, this rumour from earlier this year that said that the Xbox Series X would feature support for Steam and the Epic Games Store was rather hard to believe. Given the fact that their very business model now centers entirely on their digital storefronts and on Game Pass, it’s not very likely that they’ll allow competing storefronts on their console.
