Game files have grown a huge amount compared to the previous gen, with sizes for certain big titles going well over 100GBs. With 4K being pushed more in next gen, we can expect those sizes to just keep going up. That’s why many are expecting to upgrade the SSD space for both next generation consoles. Well, we may have gotten a price on what to expect, at least for the official drives, and you better get ready to pay.
Twitter user Idle Sloth posted a screenshot of the Xbox Series X branded Seagate 1TB SSD Expansion, and it’s priced at a whopping $219.99. Just for reference, that’s almost as expensive as the recently released Xbox Series S, the lower end console Microsoft is releasing alongside the Series X. While this price probably seems too high to some, it’s worth keeping in mind this isn’t a standard SSD, but a custom made, high speed Nvme one, which is going to be more expensive.
It’s unclear where this screen comes from or if the price is final, so for now this goes in the rumor basket, but when you start looking at the prices for Nvme drives in the high end range, it’s probably not too far off what to expect.
