'Launching new IP can be tough.'

Xbox’s Phil Spencer is a friendly, sporting sort of fellow. He’s been known to exhibit respect for the competition, and friendly sportsmanship. And now, he’s done it again. On the heels of the announcement yesterday that From Software’s incredible PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, had hit 1 million units in worldwide sales, he tweeted Sony and From a congratulatory message.

‘I know some will question me but wanted to say it’s cool to see Bloodborne sell 1M+. New IP is hard, congrats @PlayStation @fromsoftware_pr,’ he said.

Launching new IP is indeed hard, and it is nice to see some friendly spirit of competition in an industry that can otherwise get so cutthroat and classless at times. No doubt, Spencer is hoping that some of that new IP luck will follow him as well, as Xbox attempts to launch not one but two new eagerly anticipated new franchises in the coming months- Remedy’s 2016 game Quantum Break, and Platinum’s Scalebound.
