Falcom’s Ys 10: Nordics is looking good en route to its release later this year in Japan, with the developer sharing new details on characters and gameplay mechanics. Dogi, Adol’s best friend, returns and is still strong enough to smash through walls.
New characters introduced in the title include Glen Berge, part of Carnack’s vigilante corps and a positive influence who gets to the root of matters. Rosalind Lazveli, nicknamed Rosa, is the “poster girl” for the Lazveli Tavern and is somewhat concerned about Adol embarking on an adventure at his age. Cruz Carpent is close to Glen and Rosalind and enjoys reading, though he’s also the heir to Carnack’s Carpent Company.
As for the new mechanics, players can discover antiques to use new Mana Actions. There’s Mana String, which allows for grappling to points, and as it becomes stronger, you can even pull objects and switches. Mana Ride sees Adol and Carja using a Grimble Board to glide over the water and on the wind. It can also launch into the air via Wind Pools and gain the ability to reverse when upgraded.
Mana Burst is a charge attack that unleashes fire as Adol or ice as Carja, damaging enemies in range. When exploring dungeons, you can burn away obstructing plants with the fire or use the ice as platforms. Mana Actions are upgraded via stone tablets found throughout the world.
Ys 10: Nordics is coming to PS4, PS5 and PC. A worldwide release date has yet to be confirmed.
