DOOM Will Be 1080p and 60FPS on Both, Xbox One and PS4

Look, I’m not a fan of the 1080p/60fps console war nonsense. What matters to me is how a game plays, and whether or not it runs well- I’m not one for pixel or line counting. But a lot of that kind of debate springs up from the fact that most of the time, there is a discrepancy between the resolution of a game on one platform versus the other.

Well, that will not be a problem with this year’s DOOM in any case- good guys Bethesda and id Software have confirmed that the reboot of id Software’s pioneering first person shooter franchise will run at 1080p and 60fps on both consoles- PS4 and Xbox One.

“We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second,” said Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan. “Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”

DOOM is due out out this May on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

    “What matters to me is how a game plays” Yeah, too bad that frame rate directly affects how the game plays, since higher frame rate = less input lag

      Agreed. I love great graphical visuals but in an online shooter….higher stable framerate is a must above all else. Never played the past Doom’s but I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

    It’s cool there running both at the same resolution and fps.I mens the engine for doom is really old.But it still looks great.So i am not shocked that this was going to be able to happen.This is the same engine as wolfenstine .SO yeah still cool.i can’t wait to get doom on my xb1.You get doom 1 and 2 for free digital copy’s so that is a win for me.

      Isn’t this running IDTech 6, while Wolfenstein used IDtech 5? Man I see a HUGE visual difference between them. Their latest engine is a dam BEAST from what I see..

    Psionic, if ur reading this, do u think IDTech 6 is implementing Tiled Resources, or possibly Volume Tiled Resources? Because I’m thinking that by cutting up the textures and saving massive performance when streaming from RAM, is the ONLY way Bethesda could pull this off. To me Doom is visually amongst the best out there, and running at 1080p 60fps on console, that’s unheard of while looking so good. I’ma go follow that link above, see if I can find something on their engine.

    Psionic, also they’re saying that they’ll be using Voxels to store geometry rather than triangles (polygons?). This very much sounds like they’ll use Tiled Resources from what I read about it. And of course idTech 6 has a Physically Based Renderer, and supports “fully dynamic lighting”. Some top R&D graphics guy from Crytek recently joined them at Bethesda too

    I suppose this is when Xgimps pretend that the Xbone version doesn’t require cutbacks in order to get there.
