E3 2015: The Good, The Bad and The “What the Hell Happened?”

Sony, Microsoft and Bethesda scored at E3. The others? Not so much.

E3 2015 is more or less in the books now that every major publisher’s event and conference has concluded. The consensus has been more or less clear: Sony has “won” the event with announcements like Shenmue 3, a remake for Final Fantasy 7 and The Last Guardian. Forgetting the technicalities associated with said announcements, Sony offered up an extremely solid line-up with gameplay footage from Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Street Fighter 5, No Man’s Sky and much more. Heck, even the new IP Firewatch looked kind of cool.

Microsoft didn’t quite measure up to Sony’s E3 conference but it still had an excellent show. Along with the announcements of backwards compatibility for the Xbox One with Xbox 360 games, we got a look at the new Xbox Game Preview program which puts a nice spin on Early Access for consoles. A relatively solid line-up of indie titles, some new IPs like Sea of Thieves and Recore, and impressive gameplay footage for Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears of War 4 and Forza Motorsport 6 helped Microsoft stand out this year. And goddamn if HoloLens didn’t manage to look cool.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

"Where did all that time go then? Why, into the sports titles. There were long, drawn-out discussions and footage from FIFA 16, Madden NFL 16 (with some good ol' sports talk that no one in your audience will possibly care about), NBA Live 16, etc."

So it’s generally accepted that both Sony and Microsoft had good showings for this year. And yet somehow, everyone else managed to fumble things to an almost incomprehensible degree. This of course doesn’t include Bethesda Softworks because even if every other game at its event was horrible, it still had Fallout 4. What’s more, it had extensive time devoted to Fallout 4.

Let’s start with Electronic Arts. It’s ultimately debatable as to whether the publisher learned its lesson from last year when instead of even cinematic trailers, we were treated to extensive behind the scenes video. This year saw plenty of good gameplay from Star Wars Battlefront but many of the other big-name announcements were either cinematic (Mass Effect Andromeda, Knights of the Fallen Empire) or “in-engine” (Mirror’s Edge Catalyst).

But the main story was that regardless of how cool the announcements were, not nearly enough time was spent talking about them. Unravel was probably the exception – despite coming off as slightly awkward and nervous, its creator talked eloquently but honestly about the game’s development and inspiration while showing off enough gameplay to get people excited. That’s how you debut a new IP from a relatively unknown developer despite some of the hiccups.

It was sadly all downhill from there. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 looked fun but EA had to have an awkward man in a zombie costume with Danger Zone playing. If you had to ruin the song for anyone, that’s one way to do it.

Where did all that time go then? Why, into the sports titles. There were long, drawn-out discussions and footage from FIFA 16, Madden NFL 16 (with some good ol’ sports talk that no one in your audience will possibly care about), NBA Live 16, etc. Legendary footballer Pele made a surprise appearance. It was less exciting than you’d think.

Next up was Ubisoft and really, could it be any worse after EA? As it turns out, it wasn’t but the event wasn’t all that great either. Ghost Recon Wildlands was probably the stand-out announcement since it featured a large open world and tactical shooter mechanics. Tom Clancy’s The Division re-emerged, looking slightly the worse for wear than last year while featuring some rather odd mechanics to betray your entire team for their loot.

Jason Derulo Ubisoft

"Nintendo had slightly better luck despite its preoccupation with friggin' puppets of all things by focusing on showcasing games upon games. Star Fox Zero looks fun but the rest of the event was dedicated to games we already knew about."

Rainbow Six Siege received details on its story and we got a look at the Terrorist Hunt mode. New IP For Honor was fine – nothing overtly special but it’s one of those things you need to play to really understand what the hype is about. Trackmania Turbo and the new expansion for Trials Fusion both look interesting. No one cared about The Crew when it released and it’s arguable whether anyone really cares about Wild Run.

But that theme of “fine” is what dictated Ubisoft’s entire E3 presser. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’s cinematic trailer was impressive but given past controversies, some cool gameplay would have been preferable. For some reason, the event was inundated with celebrities. Jason Derulo’s performance was lame, Angela Bassett simply appeared to ham it out with host Aisha Tyler (who was nigh unbearable this evening), and Matt Stone and Trey Parker were themselves from 20 years ago (take that as you will).

Nintendo had slightly better luck despite its preoccupation with friggin’ puppets of all things by focusing on showcasing games upon games. Star Fox Zero looks fun but the rest of the event was dedicated to games we already knew about. But hey, at least Super Mario Maker, Yoshi’s Wooly World and Xenoblade Chronicles X are all releasing this year. A bunch of 3DS releases were showcased including The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. However, again, there was hardly anything earth-shattering.

We have to ask though: Whose horrible idea was Metroid Prime Federation Force and why haven’t they been fired for ruining one of the greatest franchises of all time?

Finally there was Square Enix, who served to remind us why it shouldn’t do E3 press events. Long periods of talking interspersed with clunky translating met compelling gameplay trailers. Just Cause 3 looked awesome and despite not really walking us through a mission, the gameplay footage we saw of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was great. Hitman looks impressive though how its digital approach will function remains to be seen.

kingdom hearts 3

"But as we sit here, we can't help but wonder how every other major event - from Ubisoft to Square Enix - could have so little clue on how to offer a great E3 event (except for Bethesda Softworks, who was great. But you already knew that)."

Then we had the announcement of a new Nier title from Platinum Games and Project Setsuna from the new Tokyo RPG Factory. We’d give you more details but Square Enix didn’t really bother so we won’t either. They did present some creepy…thing of sorts wearing a mask when Nier was discussed. It was way less exciting than you’d think.

The biggest highlight of the conference was Kingdom Hearts 3. Gameplay, for lack of a better word, looked phenomenal but familiar. This was indeed the Kingdom Hearts we had been looking forward to but bigger, flashier and altogether awe-inspiring in its scale. Now if only we had a release date of any kind. Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward was missing but we did get World of Final Fantasy and mobile efforts like Tomb Raider Go and Kingdom Hearts: Unchained Key. Frankly, we would have preferred footage of a raid from Heavensward instead.

E3 2015 was a rather odd mish-mash of good, bad and god-awful, interspersed with less substance from any publisher not named Sony or Microsoft than you’d think. The future is at least bright for fans of both consoles, both in terms of games and third party support.

But as we sit here, we can’t help but wonder how every other major event – from Ubisoft to Square Enix – could have so little clue on how to offer a great E3 event (except for Bethesda Softworks, who was great. But you already knew that).

Why not scrap all of this stage presentation nonsense and just release a bunch of trailers? Why focus on celebrities and have discussions no one cares about with them? Why try to make a goddamned meme of all things? Why ramble on and on and f**king on about sports games and mobile titles? Why make only the barest announcements for games with zero details? Even Nintendo, which had an interesting line-up, didn’t really present any powerful new IPs. Mario Tennis and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games are hardly ground breaking.

Last but not least: Who in all the seven Hells did that to Metroid Prime?

“Microsoft didn’t quite measure up to Sony’s E3 conference but it still had an excellent show.”

In what world are you living in? Sony fanboy world I’d assume. Microsoft Dominated E3 this year. Between AR, VR, backwards compatibility and the exclusives. Halo 5 and Gears of War 4 > Uncharted (yawn) and The Last yawn.

    • Casepb

Yeah but all of that MS stuff was half assed.

    • MG

??? What stuff was half assed, you can’t just say that without giving an example.

    • ace-meza

i am a PC guy but Sony dominated MS’s E3 conference to a point where it’s actually embarrassing.

it was’s just dominating, it was raping. i actually feel sorry for xbox fanboys

    • MG

I’m not sure how you can say that, explain to me what was shown at Sony’s showcase that “rapes” Microsoft. Seriously go ahead, I’m waiting, this should be funny.

    • Jason Mounce

Are you going full-on damage control on EVERY ‘Pro Sony’ comment? You apparently can’t handle other peoples’ opinions if it opposes your own opinions?

Bro, get a life 🙂 Microsoft aren’t gods, and many are saying ‘Both had excellent shows but I preferred Sony’s show’ and you’re getting your jimmies rustled over it. It’s pathetic. lmao

    • MG

I’m not getting upset, but when you make big claims I’d love to see how you justify them. I’m not the one who used “rape” and claiming I “feel sorry” for Sony fanboys. Honestly, I just feel like Sony phoned it in this year, and the article seems to have ignored that fact.

    • Jason Mounce

I’ll highlight the problems with your comment:

      1) “I’d love to see how you justify them” – You seem to be infinitely waiting for everyone to give you all the answers, you can’t seem to think for yourself how others can have opposing opinions so you passive-aggressively demand people to answer you, lest you likely just label them as their opinions being moot.

      2) ” I just feel like Sony phoned it in this year” – An opinion, as others feel differently and think otherwise. People around here aren’t telling you to sod off until you pester them with your incessant moaning.

and finally 3) “and the article seems to have ignored that fact.” —–

      “-fact”

“FACT” …. You make it blatantly obvious you’re one of those dumb twits who confuses Opinions for Facts? (This infact cannot be argued) That since you called it a fact that makes your opinion magically inarguable? Because you think your meager opinion is somehow much more than just an opinion? See, this is why no one can take you seriously. I for one, don’t want to justify my original claims I made of you because I know Full-well that you’ll drag it into the mud, defend yourself and argue against it no matter how logical I am about my findings. People just don’t want to bother justifying themselves to people like you because they know it’s going to be a waste of time, wherein you’d likely then take it as a Victory that they ‘Don’t justify or openly reinforce their claims because they can’t – thus they lost’ – it’s typical of desperate people to do this so they can continue living in their delusions.

      That’s basically it.

    • MG

There is no arguing with the fact that Microsoft showed off more this year. Sony has games, Microsoft has games. Microsoft has VR, Sony has VR. Microsoft has AR, Microsoft has backwards compatibility. That’s just fact, there’s no arguing that Microsoft showed off more things, I’m sorry that you’re getting upset over this, oh well.

    • BoyBigEyes

OMG… so if Sony decide again talk about games that will be released this year like: Tearaway unfolded, Tomorrow Children, Planetside 2, Dragon Quest: Heroes. They had won? Do you really think if Sony shows again more gameplay of the last guardian for example in E3 2016, the impact will be the same?

    • MG

I don’t think there was any impact for Sony, it just felt weird. They’ve let me down this year. Whereas Microsoft came out strong, and for that I’m excited. This isn’t about Sony vs. Microsoft, it’s just about the factual recap of E3 2015

    • BoyBigEyes

lol No one want to see something that already have been announced on a event like E3! Unless it is something new about the game in question! Like happened with No Man’s Sky, before it was just a game about exploration, now is a game about combat too. I think you just will understand when the E3 2016 comes, and everyone still reminds the Sony E3 of 2015 and hopes that happens something with the same level!

    • Jason Mounce

      thisgengaming(dot)com/2015/06/16/ps4-vs-xbox-one-who-won-the-fans/

People can easily say the opposite – as shown here, this person has a larger list on PS4/Sony showings – So this article ‘must’ be made by a Sony fanboy by your logic.

There’s no need to reflect your problems onto others, I am not upset simply because I’m opposing you, though if anyone were to guess who’s upset, it’d be yourself. Mirroring is never healthy.

    • MG

I’m not sure what you’re talking about, you’re getting very personal with this and I’m just pointing out what actually happened at E3. Some random website saying that Sony won E3 isn’t a surprise, there are even websites saying Nintendo won E3 this year, and that’s just a joke.

Many of the unbiased opinions on the internet have concluded that Microsoft won the show this year.

    • Jason Mounce

Good grief. You’re as helpless as they come.

Oh well, not as if you’re important enough for anyone to waste energy on, continue living in whatever deluded world you wish to live in, where others can’t have an opinion and that because a random few, or handful who happen to share a like-minded opinion with you – must magically mean that it Becomes fact. You call them unbiased only because they share the same opinion as yours, whereas if someone disagrees with you then their opinion becomes biased. Do you understand how mentally-challenged you sound by making these flaws stand out?

Because apparently if I say the Sky is Green – and I have a bunch of random people agree with me even if logic could tell everyone otherwise – since a handful agreed with me – it becomes Fact, by your broken logic.

And the amount of reflecting and strawman fallacies you’re using just to try to feel better about your opinion is really sad. I can’t say I pity you, but I feel sorry for those who actually try to persuade you. No words will get through that thick skull of yours and no matter how neutral or how calm others are around you, you’ll apparently perceive everyone as being upset and yourself not to be.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

    • MG

Aye, enjoy your ignorance. You’re welcome to your opinion, I just think it’s wrong.

    • Jason Mounce

      “Enjoy your ignorance” –

Being that I’ve been speaking Open-endedly, Open-mindedly, telling you to open Your mind the entire time whilst you’ve been stuck with a thumb up your rear the entire time, obsessed over telling people that they’re wrong and that you’re right? Lmaaao

“You’re welcome to your opinion” —

It became quite blatantly obvious that you don’t care about other peoples’ opinions when they’re not precisely the same as yours. Just because you’re stubborn and full of yourself – does not make it so how you see the world is Fact, Reality or anywhere close to being Correct.

It’s also blatantly obvious to anyone who likely communicates with you, that you simply don’t have the mental capacity or any form of intelligence necessary to know right from wrong, with that said – it doesn’t matter what your opinion is of others, myself, or the topic at hand, because the crucial flaw in your thought process is how blind, ignorant and pitifully narrow-minded you are.

But aye, continue believing others to be wrong – and yourself to be right, it will catch up on you sooner or later where people can’t stand you, nor want to be around you because they tire of your attitude problem and your narcissism – you’ll just ventilate and claim others being spiteful or bitter because they can’t handle being wrong, as is typical amongst the toxic and the ignorant, but hey, you’re not me and I know right from wrong so I have nothing to worry about, you can continue being worry-free in your bubble all day. Have fun with that, please continue reflecting your flaws onto others so more people can see how silly you are.

    • MG

You’ve committed every fallacy in the book on this one, I dunno why you’re writing up essays to take shots at me, but that’s fine. I could write up something equally long winded to say the exactly same thing you’ve said. You’re the narcissist here, you’ve come into a discussion of opinions on the state of an E3 showcase and you’ve gone and turned it into a personal attack on someone. Congratulations, you’ve essentially taken an argument about something as pointless and fruitless as E3 and tried to make someone feel bad about themselves. If there is any knowing right from wrong, you certainly do not possess one bit of it. You’re blinded by your own narcissism, it’s quite ironic for you to be trying to place that label on me. What’s funny is I would accept the label, wholeheartedly because I know that I’m not always the nicest person in the world, and when it comes to internet discussions I will get glib. That being said, you’ve gone and taken this whole thing far too personal for something that has to do with something as silly as video games. If anyone here is the silly and flawed person, it’s you.

Aye, I’ll continue to believe you’re wrong, it’s kinda what you do when people have differing opinions on things. It’s as if you don’t even remotely understand the basic concepts of disagreements. You’ve gone and written up a ridiculous critique of my person when all you know is what, two to three comments you’ve seen here? Hilarious, I’m glad you’re not my friend, I can’t imagine you have too many with the way you act.

In any case, I’m glad you said all this, as it showcases what kind of numbskullery you’re capable of. Instead of actually presenting arguments for why my feelings and opinions on E3 are wrong, you’ve resorted to ad hominem fallacy of attacking my person. Well, two can play at that game, and all I have to do is point at your absolutely asinine response where you attempt to claim you know anything about me beyond my opinions and feelings about E3.

Sometimes I wonder how all these psuedo-intellectuals come to the conclusion that they can present some strawman argument and not be called out for it. Get real buddy, you’ve got a lot of learning and growing up to do if your response to opinions is to attempt to deconstruct a strangers personality.

    • TristanPR77

You can have your opinion but the general consensus which means the majority of people, the masses agrees that Sony won.

    • MG

The general consensus is not that Sony won. Not even close.

    • TristanPR77

Sorry but it is. But is ok, you will not die because of that and life goes on. Sometimes things are not they way we want but life goes on.

    • MG

Sorry it’s not, I’m not going to continue this though, sometimes things just don’t go your way, and sometimes they do. For me, there is no “way” I need things to go, I’m just being factual when i say that Microsoft had the best showcase this year. Even still, I’m primarily a PC gamer, I own a Wii U and an Xbox One, so the future is looking quite bright for me. You’re totally welcome to your delusion that Sony somehow had a good showing this year, I mean, you’ve got 2016 right?!

    • TristanPR77

You can believe whatever you want and have a personal opinion but you cannot change others opinion and the general consensus.

      In your opinion MS won
In the general opinion, the sum of the majority of people it was Sony

You will have to live with that

    • Jason Mounce

He can’t live with that, that’s what I got out of him. At least that was the goal, for him to humiliate himself so he has even less credibility unless he deletes his own posts.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

The masses bought a garbage console with downgraded graphics

What happened to Uncharted 4 at 60FPS? Oh wait, they just announced 30FPS for single player and 900P 60FPS for online. LOL

    • Jason Mounce

Naughty Dog never promised Uncharted 4 to be 60FPS, starved for attention so much that you’ll make up images based on fallacies? Cmon now.

Just because a video is being upscaled to 60FPS, as even the Youtuber RajmanHD does to ALL trailers (Even 30FPS native trailers) does not Magically make it so the game was magically targeting 60FPS.

      Silly Mustard.

    • John Nemesh

      Don’t feed the troll!

    • *Also On PC

Yes they did. On stage at E3 last year. You might not remember the demo since you conveniently forgot it :^)

    • Jason Mounce

      http://www.gamespot.com/articles/naughty-dog-evaluating-uncharted-4-at-60fps/1100-6424663/

      A newer article that’s from 2015 instead of 2014.

“”We’re actually above 30, but we locked it [for the demo],” Straley said in the latest issue of EDGE, as reported by Videogamer. “We’re going to do whatever it takes to make the game we want to make. If it means we could go for 60 but lose something that would really impact the player’s experience, then it’s our choice as developers to say, ‘Well, we’re going to go for the experience [instead of] the 60 frames.'””

Which is of course, a smart business decision, but also makes you incorrect because it’s not a nail in the coffin with whether or not they’ll for instance, make it locked 30FPS and do what Driveclub did – or have it Unlocked 40-60FPS like Infamous SS did. Naughty Dog are good devs as well as smart business people so really, this is more intelligent of a response than you’d be able to come up with still.

So with that I’d easily like to think this proves you wrong anyways because you’re for one – using Outdated articles from Last Year – ‘And’ also bending the truth to work in your favour. Wherein they said they want to try their hardest to get 60FPS and it’s an objective – however, as a designer and developer standpoint they’re going to measure which is more important, Frames or quality and stability with the hardware they have to work with. For what they’ve showed off so far, it’s still arguably a better looking game than 99% of PC games :^) And that’s of course, coming from a PC/PS4 gamer who has a strong PC rig.

And again – it’s really too easy to beat you at these disputes, when are you going to raise the bar? This is boring me :/

    • *Also On PC

      Ignoring the past then. lol.

You really are a pathetic shill for a game that looks like a PS3 game

    • Devon Day

He could be one of those #XboxOrWeRiot people in disguise. Both had great E3, but the general consensus is that Sony’s was better.

If anything, if younare a gamer, who won shouldn’t matter. YOU win at the end of the day.

    • Jason Mounce

Precisely. Gamers won, both camps did a great job, many felt Nintendo did the worst.

Ubi did alright, Square did great – there wasn’t completely a ‘Loser’ this e3 unlike 2008-2013 where every year it felt like the general consensus was that someone fugged up bad and that Sony took the crown. 2014 and 2015 have been a ‘Gamers Win’ type of year.

    • Devon Day

Cannot tell those who are both lobotomized or nurtured anything; steel plated heads that block out common sense no less.

    • Jason Mounce

      :ll

    • Devon Day

      Exactly.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Sony show? You mean the PC show with timed DLC on PS4

Now including Doritos And Dew on PS4

But console peasantry never changes :^)

    • Jason Mounce

So what you’re rightfully trying to say, is that it’s a great time to be a PS4/PC Gamer? I agree. Best of both worlds and I’m glad I got both.

Wouldn’t Doritos and Geoff Keighly be moreso about COD and Xbox? Since Xbox & Mountain Dew are the stereotypes?

Peasantry, Elitism and egocentric humans never change no matter the camp. It’s why I play on consoles and PC’s, I’d rather double-dip and enjoy a broader library of games than be starved on a single platform and try to act pompous to make myself feel better about a Lone-purchase. No need for me to act pompous – or act poor and bitter when I rightfully-so enjoy both worlds.

    • *Also On PC

It’s a great time to be a PC gamer
It’s a great time to make up excuses for your buyers remorse on the POS4

Oh and Doritos and Dew switched alligences to PS4. So it’s like the 360 in 2012. No games and the worst fanbase too.

I’m glad everything is coming out on PC so I never have to debase myself with a worthless console and can enjoy the broadest library of games :^)

    • Jason Mounce

Aye, it’s also great to be a PS4 gamer.
Same could be said to anyone who’s made an expensive PC rig and overpriced Nvidia cards only to be disappointed when most games don’t need that much power and the redundancy that is 4K resolution. 1080p even for me as a PC gamer is plenty enough. 4K is fine for movies – or for when you’re downsampling 4K resolution to 1080p which is becoming widely adopted.

You only say they switched allegiances due to Sony striking a deal with Activision as announced merely a handful of hours ago at e3, aren’t you?

I wouldn’t say everything, say for instance, as much as the whiners who sign the Bloodborne petition – they’re going to be let down because it’ll never come on PC and they can wait for the Dark Souls 3 From_Software B-team game (A team being superior, course) and all the rest of the console exclusives that aren’t timed or are not paid-off or temporary exclusives. – But nay, saying ‘Everything is coming out PC’ is grasping at straws – I don’t wanna be ‘That Guy’ who pulls out a list of ‘Games that Won’t go on PC’ but you should be able to do the research yourself.

    • *Also On PC

I can make that list for you

Games not out on PC in 2015

      B-teamborne: 20FPS edition
      The Odor 800P

Games out on PC in 2015

      Everything else.

What a short list there. Guess PC is the only way to play this generation. Oh and 120FPS looks amazing with mods at 1080P when you don’t do 4K. Poor console shills stuck with their silky smooth 24FPS. The biggest comedy moment was watching the POS4 version of Battlefront drop frames like plates at a greek restaurant at 720P :^)

    • Jason Mounce

This is a pretty desperate comment, even by your low standards.

    • *Also On PC

I can smell the buyers remorse off you as usual, shill :^)

    • Jason Mounce

Buyers remorse from a PC/PS4 gamer? How’s that even possible? lmfao.

That’d be like saying I have remorse for owning ANY platform. So again, desperate. Look how starving you are, you’ve not gotten a single win from me, you’re used to picking on weak opponents and kids to make yourself feel better 😛 Get better at trolling and you might get under my skin one day.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Sony’s conference was just a PC Conference with Sony begging you to think multiplats that are better on PC are PS4 “Exclusives”

Both conferences were embarrassing and considering they are two embarrassing consoles, that is no mean feat.

    • Darren Russell

If anything I’d say Halo 5 (yawn) and Gears of War 4 (yawn) < Uncharted 4, TLG and Horizon. But that's the beauty of opinions. You think Microsoft won? Then that's fine but majority vote is that Sony won.

    • Kfal Balli

Not true. But that’s your opinion.

    • MG

I don’t think that’s the majority vote. The only people saying that are Sony fanboys, the Sony fans that are more reasonable have admitted that Microsoft took it this year, and the others already know Microsoft took it. Keep living in your Sony dreamworld though. Nothing wrong with being willfully ignorant when it comes to something as unimportant as a video game press conference.

    • Darren Russell

Not being ignorant at all, the vast majority of major publications have said that overall Sony won. I’m not a fanboy, I own all current gen consoles and a really good PC. I watched all of the conferences and I believe that Sony won. Nothing much about Microsoft’s conference impressed a parted from BC and the Hololens stuff.

    • MG

Opinions are opinions, you’re welcome to yours. Sony really didn’t impress me with anything this time, and the things I was excited about are cross platform so it’s not really Sony’s year for me. Whereas Microsoft showed some really interesting exclusive IP, came out with BC, VR and AR and the RARE replay, which I’m super stoked for.

    • There is nothing statistically representative about the paucity of niche gaming sites you read. Look at the mainstream media. All of them are talking about the HoloLens demos. None of them are talking about Sony’s conference. The types of gamers who come to niche gaming sites and duke it out in the comments sections are not generalizable to anything.

    • asadachi

      Calm down xbone fanboy

    • MG

After E3 I do have an xboner. Sadly can’t say the same for my PS4.

    • Yep. It takes some seriously thick blinders to think that Sony’s conference–which was one of the weakest E3s in years–was better than Microsoft’s. Microsoft has 7 big-name exclusive games coming this year. Sony has ZERO. Throw in backwards compatibility, new controller, new VR partnerships, Cortana coming to Xbox One, and that incredible HoloLens Minecraft demo and Microsoft routed Sony (whose biggest announcements were that a game gamers have been waiting six years for now only will require an additional 1.5 years, a non-exclusive remake of a two-decade-old game they don’t own, and a Kickstarter for a non-exclusive game that has never even been on a Playstation console and that is 2.5 years away). It was pretty embarrassing for Sony, really.

    • TristanPR77

An xbox fan boy calling another one a Sony fan boy

      Facepalm

      Ugh

    • MG

Hardly, I’m more of a PC gamer than anything else. My Wii U sees the most use out of my consoles. Just stating that Microsoft really impressed me this year, Sony really dropped the ball.

  • Kfal Balli

Microsoft had the best show, the best games, more in-engine gameplay footage, showed games closer to release. FF7 won’t be out for years and it’s coming to xbox one eventually. I love Shenmue but most of it’s elements are now in other games. Shenmue won’t be ready for years.

    • BoyBigEyes

If i was you, i’m wouldn’t so convinced that FFVII and Shenmue 3 will come to XBox one. Even the original FFVII or the remastered version aren’t coming to XBox one. And Sony is helping in the development of Shenmue 3. So, good luck with that!

    • Kfal Balli

I didn’t say Shenmue, and “First on ps4” for FF7 implies that it will be released on another platform.

    • John Nemesh

      Yup. PC.

    • Kfal Balli

If you say so. They won’t leave all that money on the table.

    • Another classic case of nemishing! I thought you’d have been promoted to shill by now, but why pay a zealous volunteer.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

The only platform worth playing on.

Glad we can agree this John Nemshill :^)

    • John Nemesh

Dont leave out Battlefront partership, Batman partnership, and Disney Infinity Star Wars partnership!

    • Terminator

Guess I got to add Fallout Partnership, The Division Partnership, PVZ Partnership, and some other multiplatform partnerships Microsoft did. -_-

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

John Nemshill shilling inferior console ports. LOL

PS4 still has no games. Now go defend Uncharted 4 being 30FPS. Where’s your saviour Corrine Yu? Oh wait, she quietly left to Amazon. HAHAHAHAHAHA

    • BoyBigEyes

lol You forget about: Mecha, Street Fighter V, Dreams, Nier and Ratchet and Clank. And RoTR are a timed exclusive too, my friend! 😉

    • Terminator

Added Street Fighter and Dream one is in the indie section but the other games weren’t talked about on those conferences because then I would have to add Scalebound, Quantum Break, Crackdown, World of Tank, Elite Dangerous just to name some that weren’t talked about on those conferences. You people are trying to inflate Sony’s Conference with games that weren’t talked about in them.

    • BoyBigEyes

Dream as a indie? Dream is created by Media Molecule. Indie doesn’t mean : everything that is different, is indie. About Nice you are right, i forgot that one was announced on the SE conference. And the other two, appeared. Sony just didn’t said nothing about them, because they didn’t had more time.

    • Orion Wolf

In regards to No Mans Sky timed exclusivity, you mean console exclusivity?

Because it was announced that its coming to PC/ps4 on the same date.

    • Darren Russell

More doesn’t equal better. TLG, FFVII remake and Shemue 3 were all huge bomshells. Also does Microsoft have partnerships with Dark Souls 3, PvZ2 and R6? Not trying to be funny I just don’t recall anything being mentioned, especially with DS3.

Edit: You forgot Dreams, MMs new IP which looks incredible.

Silky smooth 20FPS B-Teamboorne. LOL. Sony used the money they got with PSN Subscriptions to pay off reviewers.

PS4 has no games. PC is the master race :^)

    • Darren Russell

You’re so funny man, I wish I was you.

    • TristanPR77

Sorry to dissapoint you but your Sony list is missing a lot of exclusive games there. Also, is absurd to believe that more is equal to better.

Remember the “PS4 has no games excuse”?

PS4 is the number 1 console in the market on both hardware and software sales.

      Excuses won’t change reality.

    • Devon Day

He is missing games without question. World of Final Fantasy, Wild, Tales of Zestiria, Persona 5, Godzilla, Disgaea 5, Dreams, God Eater 2, Amplitude, A Night in the Woods, Hellblade, What Remains Of Edith Finch, FireWatch, Dragon Quest Heroes, Teraway Unfolded, Tomorrow Children, and PlanetSide 2, to name a few.

    • Terminator

Sorry to disappoint your damage control but what I posted is 100% fact because all this was mentioned in their Conferences. If I go by your logic and Devon then I have to add other exclusives/console exclusives/timed exclusives from both Microsoft and Sony that weren’t mention in their conference.

    • Johnathon Johnson

lmfao sorry epic fail kid froza 6 can never be a exclusive nither will tomb raider or fallout and as for backwards compatibilty they allready said thats only going to be for a few 100 games so good luck it wonte be for all games so all those wanting to play folklore it wonte be playable same with all those rare epic games like eternal sanata persona fist of the north star and so on that backwards compatibilty is only for games you can download those are the only disc that will work oh and fyi playstation has the full japanese market games so xbox wonte be getting any japanese games like kingdomhearts3 fullmetalalchemist onepiece swordartonline lost song or games like uncharted 4 a thiefs end and adventurequest heros all sony exclusives go eat it

    • Terminator

WOW!!! Your comment is…I’m out of words.
You know what, you are correct in everything you just said./s

  • Only in Fanboy World can Microsoft demo something never before done in the history of computing–holographic gaming–and Sony announce a non-exclusive remake of an overrated, two-decade-old, niche game that some other company owns and isn’t even coming out any time soon and Sony be declared the “winner”. Unbelievable.

    • BoyBigEyes

Wow! «something never before done in the history of computing–holographic gaming» WoW! Do really believe in MS?! Hololens will fail my friend! I live in Portugal and here your government can’t do nothing to help MS like they do in US, all the journalists are saying the same thing: «Hololens is just a gimmick device»

    • MG

Even if it’s just a gimmick device, what did Sony show that was impressive? There was nothing from Sony.

    • BoyBigEyes

Hololens impressive? I think what you want to say is: The marketing of Hololens was impressive!

    • MG

Sure, and Sony did what this year? announced a bunch of games you can’t play until 2016. Announced a remake of a game that was overhyped when it first came out, and will not be PS4 exclusive anyway.

There’s nothing you can say that would make Sony’s showcase better than Microsoft’s this year.

Also, the sheer marketing of Sony is amazing, you all believe it’s the best system when it’s clearly not.

    • I don’t know what journalists you’ve been reading, but the actual consensus coming out of E3 is unanimously impressed by the HoloLens Minecraft and Halo demos. Sounds like you need to take the blinders off of those big boy eyes of yours.

    • BoyBigEyes

Yes, i know. But they are impressed with the “Marketing conferences of Hololens” (like you) not with the Hololens itself, because they haven’t tried yet. And how i see the exaggerated marketing of MS, many will be disappointed! If you want, i can tell you what ours journalists are saying and when Hololens comes out, you will could say if they are lying or telling the truth.

    • You’re uninformed. They’ve all tried it. That’s what they’re writing about. Have you not read any of the articles? They all tried the Minecraft and Halo HoloLens demos and reported how amazing they were. This isn’t “exaggerated marketing”; journalists just spent the past two days using HoloLens.

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

Have the Portugese Media been also telling you Morpheus is garbage compared to other VR headsets and VR is not possible on such a low powered console?

Console peasantry is a universal language :^)

  • ratamacue76

This was the only news I needed. I could care less if it’s an exclusive or not. All that matters is that it’s happening. Now if only they would give FF VI this treatment.

    http://i.imgur.com/OTk0RTH.gif

    • MG

Coming to PC and XB1… Not like it really matters though, the game is stupidly overhyped, there are better Final Fantasies, and certainly better JRPG’s, (pretty much any pokemon, and Golden Sun series)

    • Orion Wolf

A new Golden Sun would be more than welcome.

    • MG

Yes, please. 100% agree with this sentiment.

    • ratamacue76

To each their own. I remember driving to a store in another state to pick this game up when it was originally released. Part VI is my all time favorite game, although it was part III on SNES when I played it. They are sentimental favorites and the only RPGs I have ever enjoyed playing at all. This will be for people like me who have fond memories of the game.

    • MG

I like Final Fantasy, not a fan of FF7 though, mostly because of the overhype, it’s not a bad game by any means, but it’s certainly not the “BEST GAME EVA” which it often gets touted as.

Have you ever played Golden Sun? Pokemon?

      Chrono Trigger? Chrono Cross?

    • ratamacue76

I haven’t played either title. I’ve thought about getting Golden Sun on the virtual console because I remember hearing it was good when it originally came out on GBA, and I just never got around to playing it back then. I’ve never held any interest in pokemon. I don’t really play much, so when I do it’s usually old games that take me down memory lane or remakes of old games with updated graphics and whatnot. Right now I’ve been on a Zelda II binge, but that is quickly morphing into a Mega Man III binge.

    • Devon Day

Don’t forget Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Persona, Diaagea, Act Raiser, Lunar: Book of moon, Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars, Secret/ Legend of Man’s, to name a few.

      Still love final Fantasy VII

    • You Are Flat Out Wrong

      *Timed exclusve. Also on PC

    • ratamacue76

Exclusive, timed exclusive … it could be on every system ever created and I do not care, as long as I get to play it.

  • TristanPR77

No other conference had the tears, surprises, jaw drops, screams, nostalgic and magic like on Sony’s conference and I watched them all.

It was a conference like no other and that is why the general consensus, as the article says, is that Sony won.

It doesn’t mean MS had a bad conference, they did have a good conference indeed but Sony was on a higher pitch.
