Halo 5 “Mega” Surprises Hinted at For Comic Con Yield UNSC Surface Giveaway

The disappointment is palpable.

Microsoft has a funny relationship with hype – it doesn’t know it’s disappointed its fans until it goes ahead and does it. Such was the case when Major Nelson touted that franchise development director Frank O’Connor and executive producer Dan Ayoub would be at the San Diego Comic Con to release Halo: Spartan Assault and unveil some “Mega” surprises for fans. It was assumed this would be related to Halo 5, because, well, what could be bigger?

A UNSC Surface giveaway, that’s what.

Debuting at E3 2013, 343 Industries teased the next Halo showing Master Chief in a cloak, traversing across the desert and just being genuinely mysterious before coming across a gigantic enemy. No release date was revealed – just that the game would be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Perhaps Comic Con wasn’t a big enough platform or because it was too early, but no Halo 5 details were to be found. Stay tuned though, for when actual details do arrive.

Perhaps due to the fact that the Reclaimer Trilogy has now been expanded into a saga and they’re releasing Halo: Spartan Assault so soon after Halo 4, they don’t want to milk out the Halo franchise like Bungie did for 3 years straight so they’re highly likely delaying the title to like 2015 or 2016, and given that they just announced at E3 it’s coming in 2014, they don’t wanna piss off gamers and leave them hanging for so long. Halo: Spartan Assault is most likely the reason why it’s being delayed in the first place so to cover up that fact, they announced the Spartan Assault Surface giveaway to distract gamers from wondering about Halo 5 and the development hell it’s probably going through right now. It all makes sense, and also since Microsoft will also be at Gamescom next month, they’ll most likely give a much needed update as they barely revealed much about Master Chief at E3; if not then we’ll just have to wait until E3 2014 to actually know anything else about the game. Can’t deny the facts though; something’s going on at 343i and Microsoft isn’t saying just yet. I want the game so badly; they must improve on what they did with Halo 4 but not screw it up by taking it in an unwanted direction that fans will feel don’t fit Halo lore.

But they are milking the series: halo cea: 2011, halo 4: 2012, halo spartan assault: 2013, halo 5: 2014. Face it: this is a major disappointment and 343i is, yet again, screwing with what little fans they still have and also screwing with a beloved (now hated) franchise.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was their way of celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Halo franchise. Since when was Halo 5 confirmed for a 2014 release?
