Microsoft has a funny relationship with hype – it doesn’t know it’s disappointed its fans until it goes ahead and does it. Such was the case when Major Nelson touted that franchise development director Frank O’Connor and executive producer Dan Ayoub would be at the San Diego Comic Con to release Halo: Spartan Assault and unveil some “Mega” surprises for fans. It was assumed this would be related to Halo 5, because, well, what could be bigger?

A UNSC Surface giveaway, that’s what.

Debuting at E3 2013, 343 Industries teased the next Halo showing Master Chief in a cloak, traversing across the desert and just being genuinely mysterious before coming across a gigantic enemy. No release date was revealed – just that the game would be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Perhaps Comic Con wasn’t a big enough platform or because it was too early, but no Halo 5 details were to be found. Stay tuned though, for when actual details do arrive.
