PSN Accounts Being Hacked, FIFA 14 Trading Cards Apparently Compromising Users

Users from other accounts are also reporting compromises.

Remember how Sony reset PlayStation Network passwords last week, following reports of “irregular activity”? It seems that those activities are still going on, as many users on Reddit have complained about charges being attributed to their accounts without their knowledge. One such user talked about receiving notices about transactions being made through his PSN account while his PS4 was switched.

Many users have complained about the same thing, especially with regards to trading cards for FIFA 14. One user stated that, “Yeah looks like someone got a hold of your password. This happened to me on my 360. And of course it was also because of FIFA. That game is behind a large quantity of these unauthorized charges. All because of the trading cards or whatever it is in the game that you can buy with real money. Change password to something really complex, don’t use it anywhere else and maybe even change the email associated if you can.”

Another user stated that, “Something similar happened to me on Xbox 360, was charged $135 and they bought FIFA and season pass and crap. Microsoft cleared it all but it took 3 weeks and they temporarily closed my account during their investigation.”

As for the person in question, he contacted PSN Support. “Just got off the phone with a PSN rep. He basically said that my money will be refunded with 5-7 business days but it does work on a case-by-case basis. I asked if they’ve experienced a lot of compromised accounts and he said that they’ve had a few of these happen recently. Let’s hope it’s not a widespread issue.

“Maybe it was my fault for not having a stronger password to begin with. You can imagine the shock as I’m lying in bed and see 4 emails pop up that funds are being added while my PS4 is off.”

Several users on Twitter also reported the same issue. We have some of the them noted below:

Have you faced similar issues with FIFA 14 or with any other game in the past week or so? Let us know in the comments below.

Why is it always FIFA games that are opening loops for hackers -_-? Same thing happened tons of times on the Xbox 360…

    • Filip Vukelic

Yep, also got hacked from the 360. Luckily the Xbox Support was really helpful and refunded me my hard earned 50€ in 3 days or so. I really hope that this isn’t a widespread issue because no gamer deserves this.

I don’t know if it is a thing on PSN, but on Xbox Live you have the option to log in with 2-step authentification. If it is, you should really set it up because your account is safer then.

    • Jason Mounce

There’s an authentication code or password Per-checkout option in the store and I saw a new security feature that I haven’t seen before that I’ve also not used, because I don’t play EA Sports games which seems to be the culprit each time. So, there’s 2 security features that should very much make it stupidly difficult to steal things or add funds in your account….

Another is to not have your credit card info saved on XBL or PSN and use PSN/XBL point cards, obviously. Some people never learn or pay attention to these things or use any form of precautionary measure it seems :l

    • Losyak

Do you not see the way it’s selling? Obviously that will attract unwanted attention.

Sony and Microsoft should go after EA for their buggy, exploitable product. NBA2K14 is showing EA how bad they are at making basketball games and their Vita games are an embarrassment. Vote with your wallet and don’t buy EA until they fix these problems.

Previously, I got hacked on Origin as well.

  • Andrew Bates

yep happened to me about 3 weeks ago. my PSN account was accessed and charged £50 from my bank account spent on fifa points… i dont even play / like fifa. after speaking to sony they banned the console that accessed the account but refuse to refund the money to my account stating that the terms of service say my account security is down to me and not sony.

  • spideynut71

Yeah, this exact same shlt happened to me with my XBL account a few years ago. I don’t even play soccer games…let alone any EA garbage sports games…so I was doubly pissed. If it weren’t for their various partnerships, MS and Sony would likely sue EA.

LOL, PoS NOTwork alright. GFY Paupers! $0N¥ PauperStation = lies, overhype and underdeliver.

  • You are flat out wrong

That’s what you get for buying crappy EA games.

Killing Dead Space and Burnout was the final straw for me. Why haven’t you started your boycott?

  • InsaneZucchini

This happened to me a few hours ago. Looking into this stuff now because of it, but I don’t see how FIFA ties into it, don’t own any FIFA games. Currently have $150 in my PSN account that I have to get refunded. Why does their security suck so much. :/

  • Andrew Bentz

Yeah they got me for $100 on 12/2/2013 Sony rep said they would email after 5-7 business days about my refund. As of today there is still no response from Sony. Very aggravated as Christmas is coming up. I my PS4 will be for sale if I don’t hear back this week.

  • celticsting

charged £70, a few days ago for fifa 14 stuff. never bought the game, and the transactions were made when i was asleep and ps3 was off. still waiting for a call back. compensation would be nice, but unlikely.

  • FeelingRabid

Happened to me this week. Emails at 2AM about someone purchasing FIFA points until they drained my account. I don’t on FIFA. Sony refunded the money to my account and scolded me about sharing information. The system had not been turned on in a month and no one knew my information.

  • zhangjeffrey1

My account been hacked today on 1/6/2014, I don’t even have a FIFA 14 on my PS3 and someone use my account to buy FIFA points for 1500HKD

  • pauper-now

  • Maria

Hi please anyone help me! Ive just had a bill for over £1000 for fifa points. My son said someone hacked into the account and I laughed. How would he know? My statement has come in. My email shows a few purchases but around £800 have not come on the email system. They said emails were sent!!

  • Time Traveler

LOL! This is not a PSN problem. It’s an EA security problem. The same thing happens on XBL/Xbone and PC. Gaming Bolt needs to hire actual journalists instead of clueless schmucks.

  • ali
