The NPD Group recently released its sales report for October, which indicated that Halo 5: Guardians was the top selling game of the month (despite releasing near the tail-end). However, according to Microsoft, it was the Xbox One which managed to sell the most consoles in October.

Xbox marketing corporate VP Mike Nichols told GameSpot that, “The strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history drove record Xbox Live usage for October and made Xbox One the best-selling console in the U.S. with 81 percent growth compared to October 2014.”

Sony didn’t claim top honours for console sales but it did state that, “We are truly humbled by the success of the PlayStation 4 and look forward to celebrating with our fans at PlayStation Experience in December. Thank you to our community for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console globally.”

As for Nintendo, the sales for Wii U software were up by 40 percent year on year while Amiibo sales in the US are nine million. October was especially successful with 800,00 Amiibo figures and cards sold. No specific numbers were given on Wii U console sales.

Console sales overall for the month were at $271.1 million, slightly lower than last year’s $270.3 million.

Hahaha This Microsoft fanboy is really desperate. Xbox One lost worldwide and Halo 5 failled compared to predecessors. Halo 5 didn’t earn $400 million. It didn’t even sell 1 million coppies in the U.S and sold even less everywhere else.

      YOU FAIL!

Kinect? Yea I have one, it sits on top of my ps4 so that it may express it’s dominance over the Sony logo. I’d take a picture but I’m too lazy to walk the 7 feet between the couch and the TV. Samsung TV though because Sony stopped making LCD panels years ago on account of them being out of money and all.

Not sure why Microsoft and Microsoft fanboys are celebrating when Xbone still lost worldwide for the month almost 2 to 1. These same Microsoft fanboys boasting about sales are the same fanboys who claimed boasting about sales is like claiming McDonald’s cheeseburgers are the best because it sells the most. lol

Basically, Microsoft managed to squeeze by a win with 305,000 Xbones sold compared to 275,000 PS4s sold in the U.S despite the launch of Microsoft’s biggest franchise which ended up being the weakest debut in history for a Halo title. That explains why Microsoft fudged Halo 5 sales numbers by using revenue of every piece of hardware under the sun with Halo 5 written on it to basically create a bs $400 million number. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

It’s also hypocritical how they don’t release Xbone worldwide sales numbers because they claim Xbox Live monthly active users are a better metric for judging success than hardware sales, yet they come out of hiding to boast about NPD hardware sales. If I had a penny for each time Microsoft lied or flip flopped, I would be richer than Bill Gates.

What an underwhelming month of October in the U.S. Industry revenue only increased 2% YoY. Console hardware sales only went up 3% YoY.

Halo 5 sales have been underwhelming, having only sold just under a million retail copies during its launch week. That number would seem great for any other game franchise, but compared to the U.S. launch sales of Halo 2,3, Reach, and 4 (3+ million copies for each entry), Halo 5’s sales have not been good. This is reflected in the Xbox One’s October hardware sales, which only managed to hit ~305,000 units this October. By comparison, Halo 3 pushed over 520,000 Xbox 360s in September 2007, and Halo Reach pushed over 485,000 Xbox 360s in September 2010. Even TitanFall managed to push over 310,000 Xbox Ones in March 2014, and that game was a new IP released when the Xbox One was somewhat struggling due to its $500 price tag with Kinect.

PS4 sales aren’t doing good either. PS4 hardware sales only reached ~285,000 this October, which is actually less than what the PS4 sold in October 2014. The console is now $50 cheaper and was released alongside the Uncharted Collection, so sales being down YoY is a shocker.

Nintendo did …okay. Wii U sales are now up 20% YoY so far this year, due to the newfound momentum from Mario Maker and Yoshi. Woolly World actually managed to outsell The Nathan Drake Collection, despite being a far less well known IP on a far less successful platform. 3DS sales are okay, but the lack of a new game as big as Smash Bros. hurt the platform’s hardware and software sales this year compared to last year.

Halo month and ahead by a whole 30k. Blunder of the year. 🙂
