City optimized for high driving speeds:
The developers of the game have stated that the city is optimized for high driving speeds. Which means? That’s right – fun. Blackbox was closed by EA recently and some of the developers from there are working on Sleeping Dogs, so the driving pedigree within the studio is high.
“We’ve taken a lot of time to optimize our vision of Hong Kong for driving around at stupid speeds. We have these high speed road networks that fit into the city very organically,” said United Front Games’ Stephen Van der Mescht on the PS Blog.
In-depth gameplay mechanics:
The game offers in-depth gameplay mechanics and United Front Games is determined to pack in a lot of mechanics that makes the city fun to navigate and play around. The game has martial arts along with an interactive environment allowing players to use environmental takedowns and use anything they see fit to destroy their enemies.
Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.
Animations perfected by a UFC champion:
Martial arts will play a big role in the game as I mentioned earlier. So animations are key here, and it’s usually something that can make or break a game. UFC Welterweight champion George St-Pierre is working with the combat team in United Front Games to make the animations as smooth and realistic as possible.
