The popular 1998 MMO Lineage used to be quite popular in South Korea. One 64 year-old woman, however, invested a bit too much time into it. During that time with the game, she used an enchantment on a rare, valuable sword in the game, but the enchantment failed, which led to that sword breaking, as failed enchantments did in the game. Arguing that the sword was rare enough to be sold for around $28,000, the woman sued the game’s publisher NCSoft, saying that she’d used the enchantment by mistake. Not only did the court find that she hadn’t used that enchantment by mistake, it also ruled that NCSoft had no responsibility to restore her item, or be held liable for any damages. All we got from this case, then, was a disappointed granny.
