Central and South America – Sonic Adventure

Of the many locations in Sonic Adventure, the Mystic Ruins is perhaps one of the more recognizable. It functions as an Adventure Field but connects to a temple, Angel Island and other zones like the Lost World. To properly capture the feel of an ancient civilization with all of its ruins, the development team ventured to numerous locations like Tikal (yes, like the character in-game), the Yucatán Peninsula, Cusco and Machu Picchu. Many of the images captured were actually used for some of the in-game textures, giving the area a more realistic vibe compared to past Sonic titles.
