TRAGIC BACKSTORY
More often than not, the character you’re playing as also tends to have a tragic backstory, with horrors witnessed and suffered in the past having defined much of what they are now. This can be anything from their hometown having been destroyed by marauders to their entire family having been murdered in a violent accident. Sometimes, RPGs will also let you choose between a few backstories – western RPGs in particular – which can often even have some impact on how the story plays out going forward.
