MTX-RIDDEN FIRST PARTY GAMES
This has been the generation of microtransactions, and sadly, we don’t see any signs of that changing anytime soon. But we really do hope Microsoft, at least, will decide to stop using them. When it comes to first party games, microtransactions tend to sting more than usual, which is why we don’t see Sony or Nintendo indulging in those practices, but since the beginning of the Xbox One generation, microtransactions have been found commonly in Microsoft’s games- at times even the biggest ones, including the likes of Halo 5, Gears 5, and Forza Motorsport 7. Wishing for microtransactions to completely go away may not be realistic, especially given how online-focused Microsoft’s games tend to be, but we’re really hoping that will be the case. After all, Nintendo games such as Mario Kart, Smash, and Splatoon – to name just a few – are all online-focused that could easily include cosmetic monetization options, but don’t. Here’s hoping Microsoft chooses to follow that as well.
