One of the most popular and well-known techniques of making a Pokemon playthrough more challenging, if higher difficulty is what you’re craving- the Nuzlocke Challenge. There’s a bunch of rules in here that can actually make any playthrough very interesting. For starters, there’s permadeath- any Pokemon that faints, you cannot use it again. Then there’s the rule that states you can only catch the first wild Pokemon you encounter in any area. Other rules, like not being able to use traded Pokemon, and your entire party fainting essentially being considered game over, and many, many others, make Nuzlocke Challenge runs in Pokemon games surprisingly enjoyable. If you’re among the people who feel Pokemon games have become disappointingly easy of late – and there are many who do feel this way – the Nuzlocke Challenge is a great way to introduce some difficulty to the experience yourself.
