7.Mass Effect – Choices. Choices everywhere.
Ah! Mass Effect! We’re still thanking Bioware for the beauty of an RPG that they’d created back in ‘07 that created more than just an enthralling buzz. That game gave us choices. Choices that affected what direction the game took. Choices that we desperately needed and choices that were forced upon us, which will remain safely embedded in our cranial companions for years to come.
The scenario is something like this: you’re almost nearing the end of the game to foil Saren’s plans by planting a bomb at Saren’s base and in pursuit of the goal end up on the lush planet of Virmire in the Hoc System. After fighting our way through a multitude of the synthetic one eyed walking torches, we are treated to a cutscene. We are to decide whether to go to the AA Tower or head to the bomb site and to serve what purpose? To save either Kaidan or Ashley. It’s just plain cruel. We hadn’t properly recovered from the fate our earlier squadmate got and now this. This choice really had us confounded and stuttering. Where the hell was the rest of our squad? Why didn’t we have reinforcements? Questions plagued us, but a choice was made, and torment was begot.
