Popularized by FromSoftware’s Dark Souls, these enemies are real players (or AI stand-ins) playing against you. Built to turn the odds against you, these enemies have a bevy of available moves and significant health bars which can make these encounters thrilling. These encounters start to become extremely annoying since failure would most likely rob you of a ton of hard-earned progress and items. In addition to most Soulslikes, recent action games such as Deathloop have employed this enemy type as well.
