Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Coming off of the success of Metal Gear Solid, the hype was immense for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. When Konami Digital Entertainment Japan and Hideo Kojima debuted the initial demo, that hype shot through the roof. From all angles, this was looking to be an even bigger masterpiece than the original. Even with overwhelmingly positive reviews and sales, Metal Gear Solid 2 faced its fair share of backlash from fans.
This stemmed from the so-called “bait-and-switch” of Solid Snake with Raiden, who players controlled for the majority of the game. The story’s themes, which focused on information and privacy in a digital age, also didn’t land with everyone. Once several years had passed, Metal Gear Solid 2 was looked upon as a timeless classic, especially with regards to its story and characterization.
