Fallout 3
When Bethesda Softworks picked up Fallout there was concern. This turned into full-blown panic when Fallout 3 was revealed to be a first-person shooter. Much of this worry was for naught though – despite a plethora of technical issues at launch, Fallout 3 was very well received in terms of critical response and sales. Even with the change in perspective, it still embodied the brutality of the post-apocalyptic universe along with its non-linear story-telling and attention to detail. Of course, one could say that the current state of the franchise isn’t the best (see: Fallout 76) but that’s a different matter entirely.
